Pastor’s Bookshelf - Welcome to my bookshelf!

Each month I will discuss a recent book that I’ve finished.

This month I’d like to talk about

The Six Types Of Working Genius

By Patrick Lencioni

I was recently invited to attend a leadership summit in Texas and we were encouraged to read this book and take the assessment in preparation for our discussion. [Sidenote: I do not recommend the assessment - in just reading the book, it's pretty easy to self-select which competencies are your own]. This book comes in the line of Meyer-Briggs, strength-finder, enneagram, type self assessment self help category. The author frames it in a pseudo-fictional narrative describing how his team came up with the six types of working genius and who in their office fit each category.

Similar to other assessments, it helps you identify which type you are and (more importantly) which roles may be missing from your work life. The unique contribution of this assessment is in the way it examines the things that drain us or fulfill us in our work lives. (although, as the book points out, the principles can be attributed to married life as well). If you enjoy any of the other self-assessments I mentioned, then I'm sure you'll enjoy this. I probably would not have picked up this book of my own initiative, but I'm glad I did - I learned a lot.
