Pastor’s Bookshelf - Welcome to my bookshelf!

Each month I will discuss a recent book that I’ve finished.

This month I’d like to talk about

Visioneering

By Andy Stanley

Andy Stanley is the well known pastor of a very successful church down in Georgia. Probably best known as the church that created the kid’s curriculum ORANGE - Andy has a talent for making things relatable and easy to understand.

To be honest - I picked up this book because for the first time in my ministry, I find myself in a place of casting vision for the future of a growing church. Over the years I have served incredible churches - but I’ve never had a church outgrow their building before! And so I went looking for resources on how to effectively lead in those moments. When I picked up this book I assumed it would be one of those leadership books that I don’t recommend to everyone - because I thought it was just for pastors. But what I found was not just a practical resource for church leaders - but sound advice for ALL people who want to pursue purpose and have an organized vision for their life.

Andy uses the narrative of Nehemiah and his own lived experiences to map out the principles of how to create and maintain a vision for your life - how to pursue a clear picture of what “could be” combined with the conviction that it “should be”. It’s an easy read, and I walked away confident and inspired for whatever comes next for my personal life and also the life of the church I currently serve.
